Although today grapes dominate the Marlborough landscape and yearly calendar, the passage of the months continues to be marked by other crops – the first peonies in October. The first cherries in November. The garlic harvest in January.

peonies 2This year’s cherry harvest started early, in the first week of November (compared to 16th November last year and 23rd in 2011, thanks to the mild Winter.

Various cultivars will allow the cherry picking season to extend through to the New Year – barring bad weather.
